1 John 1:9 says, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" So what does that have to do with God and being a deliverer? He delivered us from sin. So what does deliver mean? In this case deliver means, to help or save someone. God saved or delivered us from sin.
Have you ever read the book of Judges? It's all about the Israelites not following God's commands, then they have a consequence, and then they need help. God then delivers them from their trouble. But they do it AGAIN!!! (My teacher gave me that example, thank you Mrs. Carmen!!!)
That's how we are. We sin and then we repent, but then we sin again, and then we repent again. Over and over and over again. But as the verse said when we confess our sins, "He is faithful and just to forgive us or sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." We had a problem. That problem was sin. Sin was what separated us from God. But then God became our deliverer and now we can be with God.
